“Full spectrum” is one of those phrases that gets thrown around a lot on cannabis labels without much explanation. People see it on a tincture or a vape cart and wonder if it’s marketing fluff or actually means something. Full spectrum means something important, and once you know what it is, you’ll probably pay attention to it when you shop.
Full spectrum cannabis means the product contains the full range of cannabinoids and terpenes from the original plant, not just isolated THC or CBD. You get THC, CBD, CBG, CBC, CBN, terpenes, and other compounds working together. The opposite is distillate (or “isolate”), which strips everything down to one or two pure cannabinoids.

Full Spectrum vs Distillate vs Isolate
Full spectrum: Whole-plant extract. All the cannabinoids and terpenes from the original flower come along for the ride. Most live resin and live rosin products are full spectrum. So is most well-made flower (obviously) and a lot of the better vape cartridges.
Broad spectrum: Same as full spectrum but with THC removed. You still get CBD, CBG, terpenes, and other compounds. Less common on Oregon menus because OLCC-licensed shops sell THC products anyway.
Distillate: Heavily refined extract that strips most of the cannabinoids and terpenes out, leaving (usually) close to pure THC. Cheaper to produce, common in low-end vape carts and edibles. Effects are real but more one-dimensional.
Isolate: Pure single cannabinoid (usually THC or CBD). The most refined form, completely stripped of terpenes.
Is full spectrum more expensive? Usually yes. The extraction is more careful and yields are typically lower than distillate. The premium is real but most enthusiasts feel it’s worth it.
Can I find full spectrum without THC? That’s broad spectrum (or CBD-dominant with trace THC). Less common in OLCC retail but it exists.
Should I always pick full spectrum? Try it. A lot of customers don’t go back to distillate once they’ve spent time with full-spectrum products. But distillate has its place too, especially for affordable carts and predictable dosing in edibles.
Why Full Spectrum Tends to Feel Different
The “entourage effect” is the idea that cannabinoids and terpenes work together to shape the experience of cannabis. A full-spectrum product has all those compounds present, so the high feels more rounded, more characteristic of the strain, and (for a lot of people) more enjoyable than a pure THC distillate at the same THC percentage. It’s not just about being “stronger.” It’s about the texture of the experience. Two products both at 80% THC can feel very different if one is full spectrum live resin and the other is plain distillate. Most regular users prefer the full-spectrum experience once they’ve tried both side by side.
Is full spectrum stronger than distillate? Not necessarily at the same THC percentage. The experience is fuller, but raw potency is comparable.
What about THC drug tests? Both full spectrum and distillate cannabis products contain THC and will show on a drug test. The distinction doesn’t change that.
Where You’ll See Full Spectrum on Our Menu
- Flower. Inherently full spectrum because you’re consuming the whole plant material.
- Live resin and live rosin. Both preserve the full cannabinoid and terpene profile.
- Full-spectrum vape carts. Pricier than distillate carts but flavor and experience are much closer to the strain.
- Full-spectrum tinctures. Whole-plant extract in a carrier oil. Often labeled with the cannabinoid breakdown so you can see what’s in it.
- Full-spectrum edibles. Less common than distillate edibles but growing in availability.
How to Tell on the Label
Look for phrases like:
- “Full spectrum”
- “Whole plant extract”
- “Live resin” or “live rosin” (both full spectrum)
- “Cannabis-derived terpenes” (often in carts)
If the label doesn’t say full spectrum and the cannabinoid breakdown shows mostly THC and very little else, it’s probably distillate. Nothing wrong with distillate, but it’s a different experience.
